Head Coach Lyn Lumley

Coach Lyn Lumley

Head Coach & General Manager: Lyn Lumley

This is Coach Lumley’s twenty-sixth team as head coach.  His football experience as a player is just as intensive. He was an All-American in High School, then again in Junior College, then again as a Small College All-American. He played eight years as a semi-pro player, where he was a three-time Defensive Player of the Year. He went as far as Pro mini camp, before hanging up his pads to become a longtime fixture coaching in the California and Oregon prep football scene.

Lyn Lumley says that if someone had told him at the outset of his coaching career he’d one day be holding football tryouts for women, he would have laughed. But after seeing his first women’s pro football game in Oklahoma, he was intrigued. “I didn’t realize how big it has become,” Lumley said of women’s football. “They’re fast, they can hit, they execute well. They listen and they really want to learn the game.” That led to his founding of the Portland Fighting Fillies.

Defensive Coordinator: JT Smith

Coach Smith has most spent his life around football. A four-year varsity starter in high school and twice voted all state honors at Middle Linebacker and Fullback, he was on his way to a division 1 college scholarship when a tragic motorcycle accident ended that dream. After recovering from his injuries, Coach Smith played 2 years at a JC in Southern California then 4 years semi-pro ball. He has spent the last 13 years coaching football at many levels, teaching the fundamentals and love for the game to thousands of kids. Coach Smith brings us his passion, intensity and old school football mentality to our Defense. The Fighting Fillies are happy and proud to have Coach Smith lend his experience and knowledge to our team.

Coach Smith’s mottos “Put in the work, Do your job”,” Respect All, Fear None”.

Quarterback, Wide Receiver & Defensive Back Coach: Joe Pree

Coach Pree has over forty years of play and coaching experience in football, basketball and track, along with over 30 years of officiating football, basketball and softball. He started coaching football at Hanau High in Hanau Germany in 1979 when he was in the army. That when he knew he wanted to be a coach for life, leading to a career coaching high school, youth, and even a turn as the Offensive Coordinator for the Milwaukie Panthers semi-pro football team.

“I am with the Portland Fighting Fillies because they a great group of women playing a great sport,” said Coach Pree. “I love coaching and I think I will be able to help the team have a winning season.”
